11
Mr. Robert McClellon
May 23, 2005
Page 2 of 3
Four brass cylinders were collected from the largest pile (SP1) and composited by the analytical
laboratory prior to testing. Two brass cylinders were collected from the other two soil piles (SP2
and SP3) and composited by the laboratory. Field notes including a site sketch showing the sample
locations are included in attachment A.
To characterize the nature of the waste, the composited samples were analyzed for the following
constituents:
1. Total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd) and gasoline (TPHg) using EPA Method 801513;
2. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by EPA 826013;
3. Semivolatile organic compounds (SVOCs) by EPA 8270C;
4. Polychlorinated biphynols (PCBs) by EPA 8080A
5. pH by EPA method 150.1;
6. CAM 17 metals by EPA 6010B (mercury by EPA 7471).
Analytical results are summarized in Table 1, and a copy of the laboratory reports including chain of
custody documentation, are included in Attachment B.
DISCUSSION OF RESULTS
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons
No TPI -Id or TPI -Ig were detected in any of the composite samples.
Volatile Organic Compounds
No VOCs were detected in any of the composite samples.
Semivolatile Organic Compounds
Only one analyte from the SVOCs analysis was detected in any of the composite samples. Sample
SP1A-D contained 0.46 parts per million (ppm) of Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP). DEHP is a
plasticizer commonly associated with PVC material. It was detected at a level well below the
preliminary remedial goal (PRG) of 35 ppm established for DEHP by the U.S. EPA.
Polychlorinated biphynols
No Polychlorinated biphynols (PCBs) were detected in any of the composite samples.
PH
pH in the composite samples ranged from 6.8 to 7.4
G:\GROUNDZE\Palomino\soilpileresult.doc
