UNPACKING
At this point you will already have opened the carton
containing the control valve. Open the cartons containing
the media tank and salt storage container carefully to
prevent damage to the exteriors of the items.
Media
Open the top flaps by cutting the tape which holds them.
Remove the inlet and outlet manifold assemblies from the
carton.
Cut two corners of the carton vertically and lay down the
carton side. Roll the media tank from the carton.
Salt Storage Container
Carefully cut open the top flap. Remove the cover first, then
lift the container out.
Lay out in front of you all the items needed for installation.
You should have the media tank placed near where the
installation will be made; the salt storage container; the
control assembly, consisting of the control valve and timer; a
small parts package, containing various hardware needed for
installation; the bypass valve(s); pipe and fittings; and the
tools required for the method of installation you have
chosen.
PLUMBING
Make your plumbing connections at this time. If desired, the
control can be mounted temporarily to act as a template (see
section on Control Mounting). NOTICE: Always use unions
on the inlet and outlet plumbing to PV -B units to facilitate
servicing. Use dielectric unions to prevent galvanic
corrosion if the piping is copper.
Installation
Assemble the bypass valves to the plumbing according to
the style of the valve and piping materials used.
A CAUTION: Remember that the inlet to the water
conditioner is to the right as you face the condi-
tioner from the front.
Take the time to make a clean, professional -looking installa-
tion. Use flux and solder sparingly when making sweat
connections, and avoid excessive use of pipe compound when
using galvanized piping. If you have threaded galvanized
pipe, clean out excess cutting oil and metal chips before
assembly. Foreign objects, if allowed to enter the control
valve, can cause operating problems.
A CAUTION: The inlet and outlet valves should
remain CLOSED until after start-up to prevent loss
of media to drain.
AUXILIARY BYPASS - Single Models
If the service flow rate required during regeneration is greater
than 15 gpm, it may be necessary to install a normally closed
auxiliary automatic bypass valve.
CONNECT TO
FLO-PAK TUBING
..
/a" PLUG
FIG. 7
INSTALLATION / 9
