May 4' 1979
Project 116-1.3
-2-
FMC WASTE - GROUP l
.
The FMC disposal trenches locatedat the northeast site corner, have been
constructed with a leachate drain which discharges to a sump at the end
of the trench. Since the site was opened in January 1978. quantities of
leachate which have accumulated in FMC Trench #) have been pumped into
FMC Trench #2 for disposal by evaporation.
Table 2 below, provides information on the Barium/Strontium scrubber sludge
generated by FMC Corp. (Modesto) and approved for disposal in FMC Trench
#1 and #2. FMC Trench #1 was filled during mid-March 1979 and compacted
top cover is currently being placed. FMC Trench #% is now active.
TABLE 2 - FMC WASTE VOLUMES
Quantity Min Elevation
Month (cu.yds.) Two samples were then bailed from each well using a
clean bailer. All samples were filtered through a #42 Wha1man Filter
Paper to remove suspended solids and later, half of each sample was fixed
with nitric acid to preserve for metallic ions.
These sampling methods and subsequent analyses are in accordance with
"Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater''. Chemical
analyses were'performed by Emcon Associates of San Jose` California, a
laboratory certified by the California Department of Health Services.
Analytical results are presented on the following page in Table 3.
.
