General 4 & M and Start-Up Instructions <br /> Plants with Equalization Tank <br /> Maintenance Schedules <br /> General <br /> 1. Keep tanks completely free of debris, such as sand, gravel, rocks, etc. <br /> 2. Check oil level in blower before starting up. <br /> 3. Be sure that blower rotation is in correct direction before starting up plant. <br /> 4. Skimmer return pipe in clarifier should be adjusted so that water will be <br /> about 3/8" to 1/2" deep in the skimmer cone. Adjust air valve so that <br /> water is drawn down about 3" in the skimmer pipe for a maximum <br /> skimming with minimum water volume returned to aeration tank. <br /> Daily Maintenance Procedure <br /> 1. Make a daily visual inspection of the plant to be sure that all mechanical <br /> equipment is operating. <br /> 2. Check to see that the sludge return pumps are returning sludge to the <br /> aeration chamber. <br /> 3. Check to see that the airlift skimmer is working. <br /> 4. Check and break up scum, in settling tank to insure proper return through <br /> skimmer. <br /> 5. Check surface of clarifier for oils or greases not removed by any pre- <br /> treatment tanks or equipment. <br /> 6. Check chlorinator for proper operation. <br /> 7. Check chlorine supply and fill tablet feeder if necessary. <br /> 8.
