appropriate analysis were submitted with our monitoring report
dated April 12, 1982 .
There is no evidence or facts to support the comment that
our evaporation pond system is leaky. It appears from our evalu-
ation of this particular "finding" that Mr. Baier' s conclusions
are totally unsupported by fact, his conclusions are irresponsible
and the comments he makes can only be considered unprofessional
and intended to create emotional- alarm.
#3 "In violation of the Regional Board' s requirement that
the leachates be treated as Grade I waste (Grade I waste commonly
contains toxic substances) . Thus, the water of dubious quality
was pumped into leaky ponds from which it could percolate into
the groundwater system"
RESPONSE
The same comments under #2 pertain to this statement. Group
I leachates removed from Group I trenches one through three are
treated as Group I waste and are contained in lined facilities.
There is no evidence to indicate that these facilities are leaky
or that any waste has ever been lost to the surrounding environment.
Our monitoring reports contain thorough groundwater analysis
which show no evidence of contamination during the operational
history of the site.
-4-
