February 15, 1983
Project 116-1.4
2 _
the required work with no progress. Due to continuing wet weather,
we have commenced pumping all ponded water off the trench caps immed-
iately following rain storms. We will continue to follow this pro-
cedure until field conditions permit completion of the earthwork and
grading necessary to achieve proper drainage.
Drilling mud storage and removal adjacent to the evaporation pond
system.
In compliance with your previous order to remove drilling mud residue
from Ponds #1, #2 and #3, followed by investigation of clay liner
'integrity, the mud waste was placed in storage in the Group 1 waste area.
The storage area was surrounded by a perimeter drain ditch to intercept
and divert surface run-off back into Pond #1. This system has been
successful in containing surface water which has come into contact
with stored drilling mud waste. Upon completion and approval of
Trench #4, the mud waste will be moved to an acceptable portion of
the trench for final disposal.
Specifications, design details and soil test results on Group 1
Disposal Trench A.
This information is contained in a later section of this letter report.
- Clay liner addition in Evaporation Pond #5.
In compliance with the directive from your Board, the additional
liner material will be placed and compacted as soon as weather and
fluid storage conditions permit. It was impossible to comply with
the original schedule-of-compliance due to the additional work re-
quired by your Board in the other ponds, in Trench #4, on general
drainage improvements and because of early fall weather conditions.
We will continue to coordinate this activity with our Area Engineer.
New groundwater monitoring wells.
In accordance with the revised Discharge Requirements and Monitoring
Program adopted by your Board on 10, December, 1982, we have agreed
with the schedule for constructing new wells. This agreement assumes
field access conditions permit entrance of the required equipment.
The new wells will be constructed using the specifications shown on
Plate 3, Monitoring Well Detail.
Group l Disposal Trench #4
During September and October, 1982, Group 1 Waste Disposal Trench #4 was
excavated to the following dimensions:
700' long X 100' wide X 25' deep (max. )
9Betac_4ssociates Q
