Class II - 1 Disposal Site
San Joaquin County, California
Pursuant to your comments contained in the memorandum dated
August 17, 1983 and in response to our telephone conversation of the
above date, we are submitting the following responses relating to
construction details on the subject facility.
We will comment on each item and reference our comments to the numbers
contained in your internal memorandum.
- The curve to be placed in the leachate pipe will be constructed with
a radius of between 37 and 40 feet. A curve of this radius will
easily accommodate a drain pipe cleanout tool if subsequent cleaning
becomes necessary.
Discrepencies in design drawings
1. The submersible pump installed in the leachate collection riser
pipe will be one horsepower. A pump of this size can accomplish
the lift necessary to withdraw leachate from the sump and pump it
to the liquid retention pond.
2. The gravel drainage layer placed on the floor of the trench will
be one foot in thickness. This new dimension was agreed upon
following a request from staff of Regional Water Quality Control
Board #5. It is currently our intention to place a protective
layer of FMC waste over the top of the drain blanket to provide
additional protection from loads discharged from the upper edge of
the trench. Placement of this protective layer assumes that the
waste currently in storage at the Forward site is sufficiently dry
to permit spreoding, using a bulldozer type tractor.
1365 Vander Way • San Jose, California 95112 9 (408) 295-7483
