24-220025-000
October 2, 1990
Introduction
KLEINFELDER
Due to drought conditions and local pumping, ground water levels at Forward Landfill
have dropped dramatically over the past few years. Consequently, many of the facility's
monitoring wells are dry and cannot be sampled. Eight of the nine wells that Forward, Inc.
is required to monitor to comply with their RCRA Permit were dry or almost dry as of
August 1990.
Kleinfelder proposes to install six new wells at Forward Landfill that will intercept the
water table when ground water levels drop near or below the bottom of existing wells.
Rational for the installation of these six wells is described in Kleinfelder's letter to Mr.
Frank Dellechaie of the Department of Health Services, dated September 26, 1990
(Attached).
Details of the proposed construction of the six wells, MW -1B, MW -2B, MW -3B, MW -5B,
MW -12B, and MW -13B, are presented in the following Scope of Services.
Proposed Activities
Drilling, Installing, Developing and Surveying Six Monitoring Wells
Six borings will be drilled adjacent to MW -1, MW -2A, -MW-3, MW -5A, MW -12, and
MW -13. The locations of these six wells are shown on Plate 1. The borings will be drilled
to the following approximate depths:
Boring./Well No. w Depth in feed
MW -1B
97
MW -2B
96
MW -3B
97
MW -5B
86
MW -12B
85
MW -13B
96
The borings will be drilled and sampled following the protocol described in Appendix A,
Section A-2. Four -inch wells will be installed in each boring, following the protocol
described in Appendix A, Section A-3.1.
Following installation, the wells will be developed to remove sediment from the wells and
set the filter pack. The wells will be developed as described in Appendix A, Section A-3.2.
The tops of the well casings will be surveyed as described in Appendix A, Section A-3.5.
