3.0 PRE-FIELD ACTIVITIES
The following subsections discuss pre-fieldwork activities.
3.1 Property Access and Subcontractor Coordination
Access agreements will be updated or established to allow for the performance of sampling activities(soil
gas/indoor air/sub-slab)for the site investigation.
Subcontractor quotes will be solicited for the proposed appropriate work task(s).As part of the solicitation
process, prospective subcontractors will be evaluated to ensure their historical safety performance
metrics meet or exceed APTIM's safety program requirements.
3.2 Field Mobilization/Demobilization
Mobilization/demobilization and non-sampling activities include work scope planning, documentation
preparation, site preparation, mobilization of equipment, materials and field personnel to the Site, and
management of wastes.
3.2.1 Permitting and Notification
At least two weeks before mobilization to the Site, the RWQCB will be notified of upcoming field activities.
APTIM will obtain an encroachment permit from the City of Ripon Engineering Department and obtain
boring permit(s)from the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(SJCEHD).
3.2.2 Utility Clearance
APTIM will contact USA North 811 Underground Service Alert for a DigAlert ticket approximately one week
in advance, but no less than three full business days before subsurface field activities. The DigAlert ticket
will be renewed, as necessary, until intrusive investigation work is complete. In addition, a private utility
locator will clear each of the boring locations. Multiple geophysical methods may be used for underground
utility clearance, which include the following:
• Ground-penetrating radar
• Frequency domain electromagnetic survey techniques
• Conventional utility location techniques, active/induction/passive modes
Boring locations will be adjusted, as needed, based on the geophysical utility surveys. Based on the
geophysical survey and utility markings,APTIM may request a variance to hand digging to 5 feet bgs from
our Corporate Environmental Safety Group. Otherwise, each boring will be cleared by hand-auguring
approximately 5 feet bgs before downhole drilling equipment will be introduced.
With a representative of the building, the indoor subsurface investigation locations will be marked and
cleared for subsurface obstructions and utilities with geophysical equipment.
