Samples will be analyzed by EPA Method 8260B and EPA 8260B-SIM to achieve lower reporting limits in a
California certified laboratory. The following laboratory reporting limits will be provided and are
sufficiently low to be compared to the applicable sub slab/soil gas ESL:
EMAX Laboratories
RL
VOC Compounds Tier 1 ESL (pg/L)
Vinyl Chloride 0.0086 0.030
1,1-Dichloroethene 3.2 0.5
trans-1,2-Dichloroethene 10 0.5
cis-1,2-Dichloroethene 6.0 0.5
Trichloroethene 1.2 0.5
Tetrachloroethene 0.64 0.5
Notes:
ESL San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board Environmental Screening Levels January 2019(Rev. 1)
pg/L microgram per liter
RL reporting limit
VOC volatile organic compound
IDW generated during investigation activities including soil and purge water will be sampled, profiled, and
temporarily stored on Site pending disposal to an appropriate landfill.
4.4 Photoionization Detector Screening and Conditional Soil
Sampling
During the advancement of the three groundwater DPT borings, APTIM will collect soil samples for
lithologic description and screening for VOCs using a PID. A PID that can detect low-level total VOCs
(approximately 10 parts per billion by volume) will be used to survey soil cores at approximate five foot
intervals. If elevated PID readings are observed in the soil cores, soil samples will be submitted for
laboratory analysis of VOCs. It is anticipated that up to three soil samples per each of the three DPT
boreholes may be sent for laboratory analysis of VOCs. PID procedures are described below:
1. Check calibration of the PID at the beginning of each workday according to the instrument
manufacturer's specifications. Calibration results must be recorded on the appropriate field
forms.
2. At each of the three borehole locations, collect a sub-sample of the extracted soil core from
the approximate depth intervals,5 feet bgs, 15 feet bgs, and 25 feet bgs. Place the sub-sample
in a sealable plastic bag and seal the bag. Wait approximately 15 minutes for off gassing of
potential soil vapors.
3. Turn on the PID meter and hold it in an open space away from the soil sampling area. If the
PID meter reads zero then proceed to evaluate soil sub-samples.
FINAL RIPON PCE INVESTIGATION WORK PLAN.DOCX 4-5 PROJECT NO.631021512
