APTIM employees arriving at the site should park in the designated parking spaces that are located away
from delivery, heavy equipment, and vehicle loading/unloading areas to prevent damage to the vehicles.
Vehicle operators should inspect the areas and request vehicles be moved or spotters used, if necessary,
to maneuver in tight areas. Employees who observe near misses or potential risk to parked or moving
vehicles must report these to the SS immediately.
APTIM employees are expected to check/test the safety systems on the vehicle on a daily basis prior to
use. The following should be checked: brakes, mirrors, seat belts, tires, leakage from the undercarriage,
lights, and turn signals. Vehicles with safety deficiencies must be reported immediately and not driven
until properly repaired.
Personnel involved in motor vehicle incidents are subject to drug and alcohol testing. Whenever an
employee is convicted or pleads no contest to a company related incident while driving under the
influence, he/she will be immediately terminated in accordance with AMS-710-02-PR-02700-Non-
Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety.
Weather conditions can have a profound influence on the way a vehicle is operated. On slippery roads,
drivers should move more slowly and take care with stops and turns. Drivers should keep several car
lengths from other vehicles; at speeds in excess of 35 miles per hour (mph),the chances of hydroplaning
increase with speed. In general, drivers should keep one car length back for every 10 mph to prevent
striking the vehicle ahead.
Vehicles will be operated in accordance with the requirements listed below:
• Seatbelt use is mandatory for all drivers and passengers.
• Personnel may not ride in the back of cargo vehicles.
• The driver must make a 360 degree walk around the assigned vehicle prior to vehicle operation.
• A ground guide should be used to back up any vehicle.
• Vehicle speed is limited to the posted speed limits for developed roadways, 25 mph on dirt roads,
and 10 mph off-road (based on conditions).
• Vehicles must be driven in low gear (4-wheel low gear for trucks) when on dirt roads, off-road, or
where steep grades dictate.
• All operators must possess a valid driver's license.
• Fuels are not to be transported in the passenger compartment.
• No vehicle is to be left running when unattended.
6-6
