• An Exclusion Zone will be established around the drilling rig using barricade tape as a physical <br /> barrier. <br /> • While drilling, all non-essential personnel shall remain at a distance that is past the radius of the <br /> boom, whenever possible. Workers (drillers, hydrogeologists, etc.) remaining around the drill rig <br /> will be kept to a minimum. <br /> • All vehicles and heavy equipment must be parked at least 50 feet from drill rig when lowering <br /> mast. <br /> • All operators and crewmembers will be familiar with the rig operations and will have received <br /> practical training. <br /> • All personnel including field geologist and drilling rig personnel should be instructed in the use of <br /> the emergency kill switch/shut down on the drill rig. <br /> • Hard-hats steel toed boots, goggles or safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, and <br /> gloves for hand protection are required. <br /> • No loose fitting clothing, jewelry, or free long hair is permitted near the drilling rig or moving <br /> machinery parts. <br /> • Before leaving the controls, shift the transmission controlling the rotary drive into neutral and <br /> place the feed level in neutral. Before leaving the vicinity of the drill, shut down the drill engine. <br /> • Drilling must cease immediately if combustible gas concentrations greater than 20 percent of the <br /> LEL are detected in the work area. <br /> • A first aid kit and fire extinguisher will be available at all times. <br /> • If lubrication fittings are not accessible with guards in place, machinery must be stopped for oil and <br /> greasing. <br /> • The work area around the borehole shall be kept free of obstructions, and free of undue <br /> accumulation of oil, water, ice or circulating fluids. <br /> • No drilling will occur during impending electrical storms or tornadoes, or when rain, ice, snow, or <br /> wind conditions create undue potential hazards. <br /> • During freezing weather, do not touch any metal parts of the drill rig with exposed flesh. Freezing <br /> of moist skin to metal can occur almost instantaneously. <br /> 6-15 <br />
