From:Wong,Jeff [EHD]
To:John Lane; Gooderham, Aaron [EHD]; Kaleb Ledford; Luke Castle
Cc:jose cano
Subject:RE: Ranch Market MW-7 Well Destruction
Date:Wednesday, November 3, 2021 11:49:00 AM
John:

EHD agrees with your assessment weighing between risk and benefit of destroying MW7 by pressure
grout. The permit will be amended in accordance.

Best Regards,

Jeff Wong

From: John Lane <jlane@condorearth.com>
Sent: Wednesday, November 3, 2021 11:36 AM
To: Wong,Jeff [EHD] <Jwong@sjgov.org>; Gooderham, Aaron [EHD] <agooderham@sjgov.org>;
Kaleb Ledford <kledford@condorearth.com>; Luke Castle <lcastle@condorearth.com>
Cc: jose cano <krazypep@gmail.com>
Subject: RE: Ranch Market MW-7 Well Destruction
Importance: High

CAUTION: This email is originated from outside of the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless
you recognize the sender and know the content is safe.

Jeff,

Following up on our conversation regarding the resident’s concerns about using explosives in well
MW-7, which was measured to be 14.8 feet from his domestic well. Condor is requesting a variance
to your monitoring well destruction guidelines to destroy well MW-7 by pressure grouting without
the use of explosives for the following reasons:

1. Close proximity of well MW-7 to existing domestic well. As indicated above, monitoring well
MW-7 is located 14.8 feet from the existing domestic well (see photo sheets, attached). The
close proximity, along with the sandy nature of the soil, provides a high level of unease on the
part of the resident, Jose Cano, that impact from the explosives could cause damage to his
well.
2. Lack of information related to construction details of the domestic well. Condor, as well as
previous consultant Lee & Pierce, conducted an exhaustive search for information related to
the construction of Mr. Cano’s domestic well but could find no details, neither from the files
of EHD, nor from the Department of Water Resources. The most we could find was by
contacting Paul’s Pump, which serviced the well in 2012. Paul’s pump indicated to Lee &
Pierce that the pump in the well was set at 65 feet, and the depth of the well was measured
at 69 feet. Paul’s Pump had no information on lithology or well construction details.
Therefore, we cannot verify if the domestic well has a 50-foot sanitary seal or even if it is
