ProcedureF. for Releasing Regulated
Contractor I
1. Prior to signing a manifest, every shipping container must be inspected. See
Attachment II for information on resolving issues relating to container
packing.
2. Check the boxes to ensure that each is properly sealed and labeled with an
appropriate RMW contractor label. Inspect the containers as described
above.
3. Review the manifest to ensure that all containers are listed and the
container count is accurate.
4. Review all fields on the manifest, provided by the RMW contractor, prior to
signing. Should any information be missing from the manifest, discuss the
missing information with the contractor and ensure corrections are made
(Attachment III).
5. A copy of the RMW manifest is maintained according to System
requirements and/or state or local requirements. Copies of the final signed
manifests are also made available online through the vendor.
6. Reconcile original copy against returned copy signed by "Treatment
Facility." This copy may be mailed to the American Red Cross location or
uploaded to vendor manifest management website.
7. Notify Safety and disposal vendor if a copy signed by the Treatment
Facility is not returned to generator.
8. Safety will notify the appropriate state authority if a copy of signed
Treatment Facility manifest is not returned to the generator.
9. Maintain both copies of each manifest for a period of 3 years, unless
State/local requires longer retention.
10. Manifests may need to be maintained longer than time specified above if
shipment contains tracked waste (see applicable System procedure), is
involved in unresolved enforcement action or as requested by a
government agency.
All reports relating to regulated medical waste shall be submitted as required
by law by the appropriate deadlines. Safety staff will be responsible for this
function.
American Red Cross Biomedical Services Safety Page 12 of 17
Regulated Medical Waste Program Program # 023
