5.1.3 Managers and supervisors shall ensure that required Bloodborne Pathogen <br /> requirements are met pursuant to OSHA's universal precautions. <br /> 5.2 Risk Management Office <br /> 5.2.1 Risk Management will identify appropriate disposal facilities and methods <br /> that meet University of the Pacific requirements and minimize company <br /> liability. <br /> 5.2.2 Risk Management will assist Managers and Supervisors as needed in <br /> implementing this procedure. <br /> 6.0 PROCEDURE <br /> 6.1 Department Managers and Supervisors will identify the materials from their <br /> operations that are medical waste and will manage these wastes in accordance <br /> with this procedure. <br /> 6.2 Medical and Pathology Waste <br /> 6.2.1 Medical and Pathology wastes shall be contained at or near the point of <br /> generation in red, biohazardous waste bags. Bags will be covered except <br /> when material is being added to the bag. <br /> 6.2.2 Medical waste red bags shall be maintained in rigid, closed containers. <br /> Containers shall be labeled with the words Biohazardous or the <br /> international biohazard symbol on both the sides of the container. <br /> 6.2.3 Once filled, or when a process is complete,the biohazardous waste bags <br /> must be securely closed. Biohazardous waste must be removed from the <br /> facility in accordance with regulations through a licensed vendor. <br /> 6.2.4 This waste stream is stored in a freezer(unless there is a pick up within a <br /> week of generation). There in one freezer located in Pharmacy and Health <br /> Sciences Building at 751 Brookside Road, Stockton, CA 95211. There in <br /> second freezer located in Biological Sciences Building at 3401 Kensington <br /> Way, Stockton, CA 95211. With this process,the pickups can be every 3 <br /> months. To insure that the freezer temperature stays below 0 degree <br /> Celcius, there is an electronic record generated by the freezer. In case <br /> there is a failure of the unit, an alarm will go to an office and repair will be <br /> performed immediately. If freezer is not repaired within 24 hours, a <br /> pickup will be scheduled within one week of the failure of the freezer. <br /> 6.3 Sharps, razor blades, needles, etc. <br /> 6.3.1 Medical sharps will be contained at or near the point of generation in rigid <br /> plastic biohazardous sharps containers. Sharps containers will be labeled <br /> with the words Biohazard and Sharps (or equivalent) and will be designed <br />
