One of the findings of this survey included a violation of
California Health and Safety Code I I8275(g) which states:
Biohazardous waste, which meets the conditions specified in
subdivision (g) of Section 117635, shall be segregated for storage
and, when placed in a container or secondary container, that
container shall be labeled with the words "INCINERATION ONLY" or
other label approved by the department on the lid and on the sides,
so as to be visible from any lateral direction, to ensure treatment
of the biohazardous waste pursuant to Section 118222.
Part of this code requires that the lids to Pharmaceutical Waste bins must be closed at all times.
During today's survey, the inspectors found multiple examples of Pharmaceutical Waste bins that
were open. In addition he found an example where waste was found on the floor outside of the bin.
Please take a moment to inspect all the Pharmaceutical Waste bins in your departments to assure that
they are in compliance. In addition, please share today's finding with your staff to assure
understanding and compliance.
If you have any questions, please contact either me or John Kendle.
