Infectious Material, continued -4- <br />2. The lab diswasher will pick up all cartons, cover and autoclave <br />in an autoclavable bag as for culture specimens. <br />3. Discard will be as for culture specimens in Ecolo bags. <br />C. Sharps Disposal --Syringes, Needles, and Lances <br />1. All needles, syringes and sharps will be disposed of intact into <br />rigid, puncture proof containers. Each container will have a <br />one-way opening which will prevent the removal of any needle, <br />syringe, or sharp. When full, this container will be closed with <br />heavy plastic threaded caps which cannot be removed once they <br />are seated. <br />2. Without recapping or attempting to destroy needle, carefully <br />place in approved sharps disposal containers. <br />3. Seal full containers. <br />4. Sealed full containers will be picked up and taken to lab <br />autoclave area for sterilization. <br />5. Sealed containers will be placed in waxed cartons and auto- <br />claved. <br />6. After autoclaving, discard containers by placing them in Ecolo <br />bags to be picked up by Housekeeping for final disposal. <br />D. Tissue Disposal <br />1. All specimens from the Tissue Room will be cremated. The <br />material will be packaged and taken to an outside crematorium. <br />2.
