• <br />• <br />ON SITE MEDICAL WASTE TREATMENT <br />SJGH utilizes a steam sterilization method of treatment of medical waste generated per <br />SJGH policies and procedures for collection and processing of infectious waste. As SJGH <br />neutralizes biohazardous waste through its own steam sterilization treatment, no untreated <br />medical waste is removed for treatment'INTMY medical waste being hauled to offsite <br />-("treatment facilities. �, <br />EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN <br />SJGH has developed an emergency action plan. Indicated in the plan are the actions to be <br />taken in the event of natural disaster or equipment failure including hazardous material, <br />emergency notification procedures. A specific plan i&jpwted in the tgi&tWasteste <br />Management Policy and Procedure Manual. Arrangements have been made with BFI <br />Company of Sacramento, CA (916) 364-8872, and Infectious Waste Control of Modesto, <br />(209) 577-4136, to provide a 40 yard container which when full, or within every seven <br />days contents will be removed to a licensed hazardous waste yard. <br />DOCUMENTATION <br />Tracking documents and waste treatment records regarding the medical waste <br />management plan will be compiled and located in the Facilities Manager's office and will <br />be kept for no less than 3 years. The actual medical waste management plan and <br />associated policy and procedure manual will be available for review at that location. <br />POLICIES & PROCEDURES <br />SJGH shall implement a comprehensive Medical Waste Management Plan to establish and <br />monitor policies and procedures for the identification, handling, storage, safe use and <br />disposal of medical waste from receipt through use and hazardous waste from generation <br />to final disposal. The plan shall identify and inventory medical waste generated by each <br />department, establish procedures for the safe handling and disposal of infectious waste, <br />needles, chemical, themotherapeutic, and radioactive waste. The Medical Waste <br />Management Plan will monitor to insure that all medical waste are labeled, establish <br />appropriate documentation including all required permits, licenses and manifest, and <br />provide adequate and appropriate space, equipment and training for the safe handing <br />storage and disposal of medical materials and waste. <br />SPECIFIC PROCEDURES <br />Anatomical remains as identified in the Infection Control policy, amputation or <br />anato mains shall be plastic bagged, with from formaldehyde, pamper <br />n pu into-wrgped, and <br />thea wooden box.
