degrees Fahrenheit for at least 1/2 hour in order to achieve sterilization of the entire load.
Also identified and recorded are the types of medical waste treated. Thermometers used
shall be checked for calibration every 6 months as identified in plant engineering policies
and procedures. Calibration records shall be maintained in the facility file for a period of
three years. All biohazardous red bags used at SJGH come from the manufacturer come
with heat sensitive tapes on the bags. These heat sensitive tapes serve to indicate that all
biohazardous bags or sharp containers processed on site indicate the attainment of
adequate sterilization condition. In the case that heat sensitive strips have not changed
color and/or the thermometer indicates proper sterilization has not taken place,
Engineering is notified to check calibration and sterilization process is repeated. Testing -
The Medical Waste Management Plan calls for a biological indicator test twice a month in
which a bacillus stearothermophilus indicator is placed in the center of the load processed
under standard operating condition to confirm the attainment of adequate sterilization
conditions. SJGH uses Kechemspor II and twice a month in which the tube is sent to the
laboratory for reading and written results are received the Engineering Department within
7 days and records are kept for a period not less than 3 years.
INCINERATION
—:SJGH does not incinerate nor operate a medical waste incinerator. All anatomical and
- pathological tissues are contracted for cremation at Lodi Memorial Cemetery.
INFORMATION CERTIFICATION
SJGH believes that the information contained in this medical waste management plan and
the associated medical waste management plan policies and procedures manual are a true
representation of the medical waste handling methods utilized at our facility.
MEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN POLICY & PROCEDURE MANUAL
INDEX ATTACHED
