Complaint Investigation Summary Report #: 5105 COMPLAINT ID: COVZOAEXI Site Location: MP 98.6 - CLOSEST INTERSECTION IS E HAMMER & TAM 0 SHANTER Activity Summary Activity Date 03/10/2022 Recorded by Received 2 spill reports from after hours person. One spill report sent at 2:42am PRESTO stated that freight train #QKEBCJ of the 7th with the lead locomotive of BNSF 4686 hit an unoccupied vehicle on the tracks. The collision caused a possible 3,000-gallons of diesel. The release has not been contained but no waterways have been impacted. The release occured on MP 98.6. An update to the spill report was received at 6:49am stating that only 5-gallons were released and the spill has been contained, no water ways impacted. Called the reporting party to get information on the spill. Per UPR Emergency Response operator, only 5-gallons were released. They originally suspected a possible 3,000-gallons as that is the capacity of the fuel tank of the train, but later on found out that the tank was not full prior to impact. No clean up plans were reported as of yet. Per operator, there were no reported injuries. Asked if there was an address for the spill to be able to do a site visit, operator provided me with the closet intersection to the spill - E Hammer Ln and Tam 0 Shanter Dr. Called back to see if anyone was on site at the moment, received Mike Algots phone number. Called Mike Algots to receive information on visiting the spill. Per Mike, no one is the at the site at the moment and he is out on another spill, but he will provide UPRR Track Inspector name and phone number to coordinate a visit with him. He is planning on going to the spill this afternoon to start clean up and we could coordinate to be there at the same time. Received contact information for the track inspector, received photos from Mike of the spill. Informed Mike I will meet them this afternoon. He said he is waiting on response from the track team and will let me know. He said if not today, it will be tomorrow. Saved photos received from Mike to P drive and printed out on a photo log. Created complaint and a Prop65. 03/10/2022 Received advice from lead senior on railroad spill. PRESTO 09/20/2022 Reviewed packet for abatement. Waste generated taken back to facility on PRESTO inventory 833 E 8th St. Put note in HW for 833 E 8th St (PR0220100). Saved photos into shared drive. Created photo log and printed. Generated ER01.
