F <br />Laundry/Linen <br />Policy It is the policy of FACILITY NAME to provide contamination -free laundry/linen service <br />to our patients/residents on a daily basis. <br />Handling Contaminated laundry shall be handled as little as possible with minimum <br />agitation. Avoid shaking soiled linen to prevent contamination of the air. Associates <br />should be reminded that in the soiled laundry area or hopper room, care must be taken <br />when rinsing of the contaminated laundry to avoiding splashing. Splash guards should <br />be in place as well. <br />Bagging All soiled linen must be bagged at the location where it is used and shall not be <br />sorted or rinsed in the location of use. Bags must be securely sealed before being <br />removed from the room. <br />Contaminated laundry will be placed and transported in bags or containers labeled or <br />color coded according to the standard. When a facility utilizes standard (universal) <br />precautions in the handling of all soiled laundry, alternative labeling or color -coding is <br />sufficient if it permits all associates to recognize the containers as requiring <br />compliance with standard (universal) precautions. <br />Whenever contaminated laundry is wet and presents a reasonable likelihood of soak - <br />through of or leakage from the bag or container, the laundry will be placed and <br />transported in bags or containers that prevent soak -through and/or leakage of fluids to <br />the exterior. <br />Personal <br />Associates who have contact with contaminated linen shall wear protective gloves and <br />protective <br />other appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary (i.e., gowns to protect <br />equipment <br />soiling of associate clothing). <br />(PPE) <br />Off-site laundry <br />When soiled linen is shipped off-site to a second facility which does not utilize standard <br />service <br />(universal) precautions in the handling of all laundry, the facility generating the laundry <br />must place such laundry in bags or containers which are labeled or color -coded <br />according to the standard which is either fluorescent orange or orange -red or <br />containing lettering and symbols in a contrasting color. <br />For further <br />Policies governing routine laundry procedures are outlined in the Laundry Manual.
