. 0 <br /> Transporting: <br /> f • Medical waste is to be trans ed by a registered Mecrical waste hauler. <br /> • The medical waste hauler is to be monitored by the environmental supervisor to <br /> insure all standard precautions practiced by this facility are followed. <br /> • The medical waste hauler is to furnish the facility wit h a tracking document before <br /> leaving <br /> • The tracking document is to be maintained in the Administrators,office along with this <br /> information document <br /> ® The environmental supervisor is to monitor cleaning of all empty medical waste <br /> containers. perform an inspection of the medical waste storage area or areas <br /> including medical waste containers, and secure the medical waste storage area or <br /> areas. <br /> Procedures: <br /> The medical waste hauler is to wear protective equipment, including coveralls or a tab <br /> coat at time of pickup. All medical waste haulers are to transport medical waste in a <br /> manner where as no tears,spills,or <br /> damage of any contained meda:al waste will occur. The hauler is to practice universal <br /> precautions. including handwashiing before and after pickup. The medical waste hauler <br /> is to be monitored by the environmental supervisor at which time a tracking document is <br /> to be obtained. The environmental supervisor is to insure cleanliness of the medical <br /> waste area after pickup along with the securing of the area or areas of pickup.. <br /> Freezer Containment <br /> • Freezers are to be maintained with tight fitting seals so as to be leak-resistant. <br /> Freezers are to be labeled in the same manner as any medical waste container. <br /> Freezers are to contain a visible thermometer. <br /> • Freezers are to maintain a temperature at or below 0 Centigrade(32 Fahrenheit). <br /> Special Storage Exceptions on amount of medical waste produced monthly and Freezer <br /> Storage at or below 0 Centigrade(32 Fahrenheit)": <br /> • A Small Quantity Generator who produces less than 20 Pounds of medical waste per <br /> month and stores same on-site, may not store biohazardous waste or sharps <br /> waste for more than 90 days. <br /> 321 <br />
