11/12/2010 14:19 2092394 9 BUSINESS OFFI PAGE 10 <br /> Waste Disposal <br /> Hi lights Policy Statement <br /> All infectious and regulated waste shall be handled and disposed,of in a safe and appropriate <br /> manner. <br /> Policy Interpretation and Implementation <br /> Bagging Infectious Waste i_ All infectious and-regulated waste destined for disposal shall be placed in closable <br /> leak-proof containers or bags that are color-coded or labeled as herein described. <br /> The Infection Control Coordinator and Environmental Services Director will <br /> ensure that waste is properly disposed of and the following rules are observed: <br /> Preventing Leakage of a. If outside contamination of the container or bag is likely to occur, a second <br /> Waste Disposal Container leak-proof container or bag which is closable and labeled(or color-coded)shall <br /> be placed over the outside of the first container or bag and closed to prevent <br /> Disposal of infectious and leakage during handling,storage,and transport. <br /> Regulated Waste b. Disposal of all infectious and regulated. waste shall be in accordance with <br /> g applicable federal, state,and local regulations. <br /> Disposal of Sharps c. Immediately after use, sharps shall be disposed of in closable, puncture <br /> .resistant,disposable containers'that are leak-proof on the sides and bottom and <br /> are labeled,or color-coded. <br /> (1,)These containers shall be easily accessible to personnel and located in the <br /> immediate area of use;and <br /> (2)These containers shall be replaced routinely and not allowed to overfill_ <br /> Procedures Governing 2. The facility has established procedures governing infectious and regulated waste <br /> Regulated Waste disposal.
