Prepared to respond.
TIME SPENT: 5:00-5:48 PM
Met Greg Meyers at the McKinley gate and inspected the affected area. The
release affected both sides of the fence near the west edge of the pond. Per
Greg, a contractor is going to be hired to clean the area.
Received phone call from Greg Meyer of JR Simplot (209-401-9845) that at 9:30
am the pump turned on for a lined pond and ran for 23 minutes. During that time
a PVC pipe broke causing a release of an unknown amount of process water into
the pond and on the soil. Spill traveled approximately 100 feet to the south and 80
feet to the north in a two foot wide path on the soil. Spill went down approximately
4 inches in to the soil. Pump has been locked out and is in the process of being
repaired. An outside contractor is being hired to conduct clean-up of the impacted
soil. No storm drains or waterways were impacted. Soil has been marked with
orange marking paint around release. Clean-up will occur sometime this week
and waste will be disposed of as non-RCRA hazardous waste. Process waters
may contain fertilizers or constituents of fertilizers. Asked Greg Meyer to cover
spill since it will be exposed to rain. No injuries or evacuations.
Generated complaint, prop 65 and emergency response record. Started writing
Notice to Abate.
Activity Date
04/18/2022
04/18/2022
Recorded by
ALAN IZ
ALANIZ
BAKER
04/19/2022 Completed 4/18/2022 photo log and emailed to lead inspector. Emailed NTA to Greg Meyer at
greg.meyer@simplot.com. Called Greg Meyer to confirm spill was covered. Spill
was not covered. Requested spill be covered if clean-up will take place after
Thursday and Friday since there will be additional rain.
ALAN IZ
ALAN IZ
BAKER
04/20/2022 Completed site map.
