State of California Department of Health Services
Memorandum hAR 2 1,_%4
To SAN JOAQUIN LCOAL Date :
Terry Roberts HEALTH. DiSTRin'T
State Clearinghouse Subject:
1400 - 10th Street, Room 121 SCH #84010311
County Aquisition of a
Portion of Existing
Class II-1 Landfill
From SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
Environmental Health Division
714 P Street, Room 430
322-230F
The Sanitary Engineering Branch of the State Department of Health Services has
reviewed the above-subject Negative Declaration. The County of San Joaquin
proposes to purchase a 114 acre portion of the 160 acre landfill facility
site presently owned and operated by Forwarder Ind, SOLItheast of Stockton. The
site is located on the westside orTun R
—stioad, 1.9 miles south of Arch Road.
We comment as follows:
Prior to purchase, the County of San Joaquin should determine
if the existing operation has in any way adversely affected
groundwater quality. This should be accomplished by sampling
shallow groundwater, both upstream and downstream, of the
disposal site. Traditional parameters of water quality,
including organic chemical testing, should be performed. Also,
an ongoing groundwater sampling program should be established
and maintained.
For any questions regarding the above comments, please contact Mr. Gunter A.
Fedlin, Supervising Sanitary Engineer, State Department of Health Services,
5545 East Shields Avenue, Fresno, CA 93727 (Telephone: 209-445-5321) .
.u,.Harvey F. Collins, Ph.D. , Chief
Environmental Health Division
cc:/-c,an Joaquin County Health Department
Regional Water Quality Control. Board
S
