Received a page at
approximately 11:00 am. Spill report indicates A boat partially sank in the marina
for unknown
reasons, releasing oil into the water. The cause of the sinking is still
under investigation. The release created a sheen 24 feet x 24 feet in size.
Absorbent booms and pads have been deployed to the water. A crew is on
scene to raise the boat. The vessel will be a 28' Bayliner Sunbridge that was
abandoned at the location.
Called Charles Spurlock, owner of King Island Marina 209-598-9221. He indicated
the vessel was abandoned at the holiday slip by a boat owner who had a heart
attack and died. The marina indicated they do not have the boat owners
information. He sent me photos of the sunken boat. He indicated because the
slips have supports that kept the boat from being completely submerged into the
water. He indicated about one gallon of oil was released and contained.
I arrived at King Island Marina at approximately 12:20 and discussed the spill with
Charles Spurlock. I arrived at the spill location and took photos at 12:40. I found
no sheen on top of the water, and a soft boom placed around the vessel.
Issued a notice to abate to Charles Spurlock due to the vessel being at the King
Island Mariana slip and no vessel owner being able to be established.
07/20/2022 Populated prop 65, printed prop 65, and signed and cc'd the business. Left prop ERNEST
65 in the prop 65 box.
Worked on photo log.
07/20/2022 Reviewed notes, and spill report. Completed narrative for 7/18/22. ERNEST
07/21/2022 Called Charles Spurlock of King Island Marina to receive update on the vessel
ERNEST
which sunk on sunday. The vessel has been removed from the marina, and soft
boom removed from the water and placed in the hazardous waste storage area.
The site is awaiting safety clean to remove materials from site.
5105.rpt Page lot 2
