b . A diagram showing proposed " Fire Lane " shall be submitted for approval to <br /> the Office of the Fire Marshal . Fire Lanes shall be marked in accordance with <br /> California Fire Code ( Appendix D103 . 6 Signs ) . <br /> c . Provide an all -weather access driving surface ( aggregate base ) throughout all <br /> active approved construction sites . <br /> 3 . Fire Hydrants / FDC ' s / PIV 's : Plans and specifications for fire hydrant , post <br /> indicator valves and fire department connections systems shall be submitted for <br /> review and approved prior to construction . <br /> a . Fire hydrants shall be installed on a minimum 8 - inch looped water main . <br /> b . Fire hydrants shall be installed around all buildings at a maximum spacing of <br /> 300 feet in accordance with the California Fire Code . Corners should be <br /> utilized for hydrant locations when possible . <br /> c . Hydrants subject to vehicular damage shall be protected in an approved <br /> manner and not be obstructed by vehicles or other obstructions . <br /> d . Provide 15 feet of clearance on either side of the fire hydrant from stopped or <br /> parked vehicles . <br /> e . Additional fire hydrants may be required to meet the minimum spacing <br /> requirements of hydrants within 8 feet of Fire Department Connections <br /> ( FDC ) , Post Indicator Valve ( PIV ) for fire sprinkler systems . <br /> f . The on - site fire protection system ( fire hydrants and associated water mains ) <br /> shall be installed prior to the issuance of building permits . <br /> g . All Post Indicator Valves ( PIV ) and Fire Department Connections ( FDC ) must <br /> be within 8 feet of the fire hydrant in a cluster formation . <br /> h . All Fire Department Connections ( FDC ) must be clearly labeled as to which <br /> building it is supplying . <br /> i . All Fire Department Connections must face the drive lane . <br /> j . Total fire flow ( appendix B of CFC ) shall be calculated and submitted as part <br /> of the permit submittal . <br /> k . All truck terminal /storage facilities must have a minimum 20 , 000 gallon <br /> above ground water storage tank . Tank must be labeled " Fire Dept Use Only " <br /> and well as number of gallons . <br /> L . All tanks must be supplied with an automatic refill that meets the system <br /> demand for the design duration . <br /> m . Water storage tanks must have a valve with 2 . 5 " NH male threads protected <br /> by a cap . <br /> n . A vent pipe is required and must be 1 . 5 times larger than the discharge . <br /> o . All tanks must be equipped with an overflow, located at the top capacity line <br /> or high - water line . <br />
