Lubrizol
August 1 , 2023
Donovan Hamilton
Director Global Fuel Strategies
Costco Wholesale
999 Lake Drive
Issaquah, Washington 98027
Subject : Lubrizol ULTRAZOL® GA9058 Reid Vapor Pressure
Dear Mr. Donovan Hamilton:
Reid Vapor Pressure is a common measure of the volatility of gasoline and other petroleum
products to a specific absolute vapor pressure exerted by the vapor of the liquid and any
dissolved gases/moisture at 37 . 8 ° C ( 100 °F) .
As requested for ULTRAZOL GA9058 , this additive ' s vapor pressure at 37 . 8 °C ( 100 °F) as
measured by ASTM D5191 method is 0 . 09 kPa (psi) . ASTM D5191 is the most widely used and
acceptable test method in the USA for regulatory compliance of gasoline and other petroleum
products and is acceptable by the EPA for "Tier 3 Motor Vehicle Emission and Fuel Standards" .
However, ASTM D6378 is one of the accepted methods for Reid Vapor Pressure known as
DVPE measurement by California Air Resource Board. The ASTM D5191 , DVPE (Dry Vapor
Pressure, no moisture present) measurement has been correlated to the ASTM D6378 by ASTM
and may be converted to a Reid Vapor Pressure equivalent. The converted DVPE is 0 . 24 kPa
(psi) using the following conversion : DVPED5191 = DVPED6378 — 0 . 15psi .
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions .
Sincerely,
Michelle Graf
Director of Technology of Fuel Products
29400 Lakeland Blvd.
Wickliffe, OH 44092-2298
Michelle . graf@lubrizol. com
The Lubrizol Corporation, A Berkshire Hathaway Company
