Danette Rodriguez, EHS ALANIZ
administrator, sent her an email on 3/25/2021, saying:
"We had an oil spill on our parking lot from a container that was dropped off to us.
We are in the process of cleaning it up and none of it reached the drain or the
street and we are having a company clean it up. Is this something I need to
report? I can send pictures if needed."
The spill occurred at Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials located at 3837
Imperial Way, Stockton Ca 95215.
Called Danett, 209-464-2701, and left a message. Drove to the facility with
Melissa Nissim, program coordinator.
Met with Danett. She said that the release happened from an Alco shipping
container. It was dropped off on 3/25/2021 and started to leak an oil like fluid.
The fluid went across the parking lot and was stopped before going into any storm
drains. Approximately 5-10 gallons of oily liquid is estimated to have been
released onto asphalt and concrete.
The facility hired R&B Environmental to clean-up the spill and properly dispose of
the waste. The spill was cleaned up using absorbent. After the absorbent was
swept up, the area was pressure washed and the liquid was collected. The
absorbent was placed into one 55 gallon drum with a hazardous waste label. It is
currently being stored in the facility's hazardous waste storage area until it can be
picked up for disposal. The liquid waste from the pressure washing was not
located on site. It was not known how the liquid was going to be disposed of.
The area was properly cleaned up. An official inspection report was written and
emailed to Danette at <Danette.Rodriguez@mcam.com>. I told Danette that she
needed to make a hazardous waste determination for the pressure wash liquid. I
also instructed her to submit the final waste disposal records to the EHD.
Got back to the office and created a photo log.
Submit final disposal records for the oily absorbent and liquid from the power
washing within 30 days. If the liquid is deemed non-hazardous, submit
documentation showing how the hazardous waste determination was made.
Completed a prop 65
5105.rpt Page 1 of 2
