Biological Resources Evaluation Report
Griffith Energy Project
1.1.2 Ecoregion
The Project site is located within the Great Valley Geomorphic Province, which is a broad, flat, alluvial plain
about 50 miles wide and 400 miles long in the central part of California between the Sierra Nevada in the
east and the Coast Ranges in the west(Jepson Flora Project[eds.] 2021). The Central Valley is composed
of two valleys: 1)the northern and smaller valley, known as the Sacramento Valley, which is drained by the
Sacramento River;and 2)the southern and larger valley, known as the San Joaquin Valley, which is drained
by the San Joaquin River(California Department of Conservation, California Geological Survey 2002). The
Project site is located within the San Joaquin Valley subregion of the Great Valley (Jepson Flora Project
[eds.] 2021).
1.1.3 Land Use
Based on historical aerial imagery(Google Earth©),the Project site has consisted of herbaceous vegetation
and has been used for grazing since 1985. Two houses were built within the boundary of Project site
between 2002 and 2003. The topography of the Project site appears unchanged throughout this period.
Based on information provided by the landowner, the Project site is annually grazed by cattle. The area of
the Project site within San Joaquin County is designated as agriculture and open space land (San Joaquin
County Community Development Department 2013), and the portion in Alameda County is designated as
an unincorporated, wind-resource area (ICF International 2010).
Tetra Tech, Inc. 1-5 July 2023
