Biological Resources Evaluation Report
Griffith Energy Project
Scientific Common Federal State Status
Name Name Status /Other Habitat Potential to Occur*
Status
Low.This species has been previously documented
once within the boundary of the project site in 1989
(CDFW 2021 a). There have also been 10 occurrences
within 5 miles of the project site prior to 2000 (CDFW
2021 a). However, there are no occurrences within the
past 20 years in the CNDDB, and kit fox is likely either
extirpated or occurs at very low levels in this part of its
Vulpes range, as evident by long-term surveys from 2016-2026
macrotis San Joaquin kit Endangered Threatened Grasslands and other sparsely just southeast of the Project area on the Contra Costa
mutica fox vegetated, shrubland habitats. Water District's 3,000-acre Corral Hollow property.
These surveys have not found any SJKF, since
occurrences are required to be reported to the CNDDB
and they were not found during the literature review
(CDFW 2021 a).At the time of survey, several burrows
potentially suitable for SJKF were observed, but no kit
fox sign or characteristic kit fox burrows were found.
Therefore, potential for this species to occur on the
Project site is low.
Closest occurrence records are from the CNDDB(CDFW 2021 a).
Federally listed endangered:an animal or plant in danger of extinction within the foreseeable future throughout all or a significant portion of its range.
State listed endangered: "endangered species" means a native species or subspecies of a bird, mammal, fish, amphibian, reptile, or plant which is in serious danger of becoming
extinct throughout all, or a significant portion, of its range due to one or more causes, including loss of habitat, change in habitat, overexploitation, predation, competition, or disease
(Fish and Game Code§2062).
State listed threatened: "threatened species"means a native species or subspecies of a bird, mammal, fish, amphibian, reptile, or plant that, although not presently threatened with
extinction,is likely to become an endangered species in the foreseeable future in the absence of special protection and management efforts(Fish and Game Code§2067).
BCC=Federal Bird of Conservation Concern:The Birds of Conservation Concern 2021 List identifies migratory and non-migratory bird species(beyond those already designated as
Federally threatened or endangered)that represent the USFWS'highest conservation priorities.
FP=CDFW Fully Protected:the classification of"Fully Protected"was California's initial effort in the 1960's to identify and provide additional protection to those animals that were rare
or faced possible extinction. Most Fully Protected species have also been listed as threatened or endangered species under the California Endangered Species Act. Fully Protected
species may not be taken or possessed at any time and no licenses or permits may be issued for their take except for necessary scientific research, relocation of bird species for the
protection of livestock,or if they are a covered species in a Natural Community Conservation Plan(Fish and Game Code§§3511,4700,5050,and 5515).
CRPR=California Rare Plant Rank:
1 B=Plants rare, threatened,or endangered in California and elsewhere.
0.1 =Seriously threatened in California(over 80%of occurrences threatened/high degree and immediacy of threat).
Tetra Tech, Inc. 5-23 July 2023
