Biological Resources Evaluation Report
Griffith Energy Project
Scientific Common Federal State Status
Name Name Status /Other Habitat Potential to Occur*
Status
Medium. This species has been previously documented
along the California Aqueduct 2 miles northeast from
Open wetlands, wet meadows, the Project site(CDFW 2021 a). This is the only record
pastures, old fields, freshwater within a 5-mile radius of the Project site. This
corridors. species could use the Project site as foraging habitat
and use the adjacent 150-meter buffer as nesting
habitat. Therefore, potential for this species to occur
onsite is medium.
Short-grass prairie, mountain Observed. This species was heard calling on the
Eremophila California meadow, open coastal plain, Project site during the survey and has five occurrences
alpestris actia horned lark None WL fallow grain field, and alkali within 5 miles from the Project site;the most recent
flat. recorded occurrence from the CNDDB is 5 miles from
the Project site in 2007 (CDFW 2021 a).
Broadleaved upland forest, Observed. This species has been previously recorded
desert wash, Joshua tree within 3 to 5 miles of the Project site and was observed
Lanius Loggerhead BCC SSC woodland, Mojavean Desert on the Project site during the survey(CDFW 2021 a).
ludovicianus shrike scrub, pinon and juniper This species requires trees and shrubs for nesting;
woodlands, riparian woodland, therefore, it would only nest in the residential areas of
and Sonoran Desert scrub. the Project site.
Mammals
Medium. This species has been previously documented
1 mile northwest of the project site in 2014(CDFW
2021 a). The most recent occurrence was 3 miles
Grasslands, savannas, northwest from the Project site in 2015(CDFW 2021 a).
American None SSC openings in desert scrub, and There is the possibility this species could forage and
Taxidea taxus badger grassy mountain meadows reside on the Project site because of the presence of
near timberline. friable soils for dens and adequate food supplies, and
since this species is a habitat generalist. No badger
sign or burrows were found during the survey.
Therefore, potential to occur onsite is medium.
Tetra Tech, Inc. 5-22 July 2023
