Water Supply Assessment Griffith Energy Storage Project
1.0 PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Project is a proposed energy storage facility housing lithium-ion batteries totaling 400-megawatts of
energy on a 106-acre property of land in San Joaquin County. The Project property is approximately
0.9 miles southwest of Interstate 580 and approximately 5 miles southwest of the City of Tracy, directly
east to the Pacific Gas and Electric's Tesla Substation.
The energy storage facility would interconnect at the Tesla Substation immediately adjacent to the site in
Alameda County via a 230-kilovolt interconnection generation tie (gen-tie) line. The Project would
substantially increase energy storage capacity and address limitations of the electrical energy grid by
increasing the efficacy of renewable energy. This Project and other energy storage systems are used to
supply power during brief disturbances, reduce outages and associated impacts to the community, and
substitute for certain large footprint transmission upgrades.
Construction of the Project is anticipated to last approximately 12-months, plus 3 months for
commissioning, with an estimated 10,000,000 gallons of non-potable water(approximately 30.7 acre-feet)
needed for dust suppression, soil compaction, and other construction related purposes.
During the Project operation and maintenance phase, the expected maintenance would generate little
worker traffic and no heavy equipment would be utilized during normal operation. No permanent sanitary
facilities would be required during operations. Fire protection service is expected to be provided by the
Tracy Rural Fire District. The project site is approximately 3 miles west of the Tracy Rural Fire District Fire
Station 94.
OTETRA TECH 4 February 2023
