Existing and Proposed Septic Tank Usage
Existing Septic System
A septic system is currently located on the Site to serve the house (Plate 2).
Proposed Septic System
Ms. Ferreira plans to construct a second home on the Site. A new septic system will be
installed to serve the second home.
On-Site Septic Permit History
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department septic permit files were
searched for the Site address; two records were identified:
• November 1996 permit for addition to existing residential septic system. A 40-
foot leach line and a 36-inch diameter by 25-foot-deep seepage pit were added
to the system.
• January 2004 permit for replacement of residential septic system. The system
utilized a 1,200-gallon septic tank, two 40-foot leach lines, and two 2- by 14- by
10-foot-deep sumps. The permit notes that the previous system was located on
the adjacent property.
These permits have been included in Appendix 4.
Existing Septic Tank Usage in the Vicinity
To estimate the septic system usage in the area, our office typically counts building
clusters located within approximately one square mile surrounding the property using
airphoto imagery from Google Earth. However, in this location, it appears from permit
records that the majority of properties in the area are connected to municipal sewer
services. It is estimated that around 30 septic systems may be present within a mile of
the Site, most located on the streets immediately surrounding the Site.
The Site is located in a mainly residential neighborhood of southeast Stockton. Some
agricultural and commercial/industrial properties are located to the west.
Septic Permit History in the Vicinity
Based on a review of septic permits on file at the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department for nearby properties, most septic systems in the area utilize leach
lines with seepage pits; two permits indicated leach lines only, and one permit indicated
leach lines with sumps. The septic permits can be found in Appendix 4 of this report.
LOGE 2325 Page 2
