SB 1383 Sampling Protocol—Tracy Material Recovery and Transfer Station
The two weights are used to calculate the ratio of food materials in the product being shipped
off-site. Multiply the ratio by the amount of food materials being shipped off site to determine
the total weight shipped for recovery. All results will be recorded, stored onsite and reported to
the CalRecycle RDRS system.
Residue From Source Separated Recyclables
Recyclables are processed on-site into separated recycling commodities. Residue from the source
separated recycling lines are sampled for organic materials prior to shipping to landfill.
Pursuant to 14 CCR 17409.5.5, on a quarterly basis, incompatible residues removed from source
separated recyclables will be sampled for organic materials, before being shipped to landfill
within the 10-day sampling period. The sample will be random, representative and composite of
the incompatible residues being sent for disposal. A representative sample of 200 pounds will
be collected and weighed. The sample will be sorted through to separate organic materials from
the incompatible residues. The sample will be weighed again to determine the ratio of organic
material remaining in the incompatible residues going to the landfill. Multiply the ratio by the
weight of incompatible residues being shipped to the landfill to determine the total weight of
organic materials in the residue being disposed of at the landfill. Materials will be measured and
weighed in accordance with this document. All results will be recorded, stored onsite and
reported to the CalRecycle RDRS system .
Residue From Green Materials and Co-collection Green Materials/Food Materials
Processing
Source separated green materials, and co-collected green and food materials are processed on-
site into compost feedstock using manual and mechanical means. Residue from the processing
activities are sampled for organic materials prior to shipping to landfill.
Pursuant to 14 CCR 17409.5.5, on a quarterly basis, incompatible residues removed from source-
separated green materials and co-collected green and food materials will be sampled for organic
materials, before being shipped to landfill within the 10-day sampling period. The resulting residue is sent to landfill.
51 Page
