1. Mixtures of medical and non-medical waste. Mixed waste is medical waste, except <br /> for all of the following: <br /> a. Medical waste and hazardous waste is hazardous waste and is subject to <br /> regulation as specified in the statutes and regulations applicable to <br /> hazardous waste. <br /> b. Medical waste and radioactive waste is radioactive waste and is subject to <br /> regulation as specified in the statutes and regulations applicable to <br /> radioactive waste. <br /> c. Medical waste, hazardous waste, and radioactive waste is radioactive <br /> mixed waste and is subject to regulation as specified in the statutes and <br /> regulations applicable to hazardous waste and radioactive waste. <br /> PROCEDURES <br /> A. Program Administrator <br /> 1. The Environmental Health and Safety Manager, Sutter Valley Medical Foundation is <br /> responsible for implementation of this program. <br /> B. Segregation and Containers <br /> 1. All medical waste shall be segregated from other wastes at the point of origin. Refer <br /> to Appendix D for examples. <br /> 2. All sharps waste will be placed into rigid leak/puncture resistant sharps containers. <br /> a. Sharps containers shall be labeled with the international biohazard symbol <br /> and must include the word "BIOHAZARD". <br /> b. Stericycle reusable medical waste red containers are for sharps or red <br /> bags waste only. See Appendix E for Stericycle packaging procedures. <br /> c. Sharps containers shall be secured with locking wall brackets, counter <br /> holding dish and floor carts are required at all times. <br /> 3. Pharmaceutical waste shall be placed into rigid leak/puncture resistant approved <br /> medical waste containers (i.e., blue top, white container). <br /> a. The containers must be marked with "INCINERATION ONLY." <br /> b. Stericycle reusable waste blue container: Comingle sharps and <br /> pharmaceutical waste. See Appendix E for Stericycle packaging <br /> procedures. <br /> c. Pharmaceutical waste containers shall be placed with locking wall or cart <br /> brackets, counter holding dish and floor carts secured at all times. <br /> 4. All biohazardous waste, including sealed full sharps containers (except <br /> pharmaceutical and trace chemotherapeutic wastes) will be segregated at the point <br /> of origin and will be placed into disposable red impervious bag conspicuously <br /> labeled with the words "BIOHAZARDOUS WASTE" or with the international <br /> biohazardous waste symbol and the word "BIOHAZARD."
