TGI - Indoor Air, Ambient Air, Sub-Slab Vapor, and Soil Vapor 04ARCADIS
Sampling for Analysis via USEPA Compendium Method TO-10A
Rev: 0 1 Rev Date: March 10, 2023
4. Record the following weather information on the sampling form (use a hand-held weather meter or other
suitable information source [e.g., weatherunderground.com] to obtain the following information):
o Ambient air temperature
o Indoor air temperature
o Barometric pressure
o Wind speed
o Relative humidity
o Significant recent precipitation
o Snow/ice cover
Termination of Ambient Air, Indoor Air, Sub-Slab Vapor, and Soil Vapor Sample Collection
1. At the end of the specified sample duration turn off the low volume air sampler and record the time on the
sample form. For soil gas samples, close the valve on the sub-slab or soil vapor sample assembly.
2. Remove the PUF cartridge with clean gloved hands and immediately wrap the cartridge in the original
material. Wrap in foil, place in a small bubble bag and place inside the sealed container. Put the container
in the large bubble bag and then into the re-sealable bag and close. If using the quartz filter, remove and
place inside the sealed container. Label the re-sealable bag.
3. Package the PUF cartridges in the laboratory provided boxes - preservation with ice or frozen gel
packs is required during shipment.
4. For sub-slab vapor samples, remove the sub-slab sample assembly. Replace the Vapor Pin°
cap and cover. For soil vapor samples, replace the cap on the end of the tubing and coil into the
well annulus. Replace the well cover.
5. Complete the COC forms and sample labels provided by the laboratory as directed. Instructions
on how to determine the flow rate for the COC is below.
6. Complete the COC form; copy, photograph, or scan a version for the project file (if possible); and place the
form in the shipping container. Close the shipping container and affix the custody seal to the container
closure.
7. Transmit media via courier delivery service to laboratory for analysis.
Determination of Flow Rate
To determine the total volume of air that flowed through the low volume air pump during the sample duration:
1. Connect the low volume air sampler inlet to the flow calibrator using flexible silicone tubing.
2. Connect the tapered end of the calibration sorbent tube to the opposite end of the flow calibrator using
flexible silicone tubing.
Printed copies of this Technical Guidance Instruction are uncontrolled.
