Forward Landfill WMU FU-23 02300 5 EARTHWORK
B. The material shall be obtained from onsite excavations or stockpiles and shall be
free from roots, organic matter, trash, debris, rocks or clods larger than 3 inches,
and other deleterious materials.

C. The top 3-inches of General Earthfill that will be overlain by geosynthetics shall
not contain particles greater than 1/2-inch or any materials that may protrude from
the surface that could puncture the overlying geosynthetics.

2.3 CLAY LINER

A. A natural clayey material free from roots, organic matter, frozen material, debris,
solid waste, rocks, or slag larger than 1 inch, and other deleterious materials.

B. The clay liner material shall be obtained from the clay stockpile currently in the
WMU FU-23 area. The clay stockpile shall be relocated to the East Stockpile and
Borrow Area and shall be separated from the general earthfill stockpile.

C. The Clay Liner material shall have similar characteristics to the clay material used
in the sealed double ring infiltrometer testing (see OWNER for SDRI test results).
It shall have a soil classification of clayey sand (SC), lean clay, sandy clay, or
silty clay (CL), or fat clay or sandy clay (CH), using the Unified Soil
Classification System and shall meet the following requirements:
1. Particle Size: Material having 100 percent by weight passing 1-inch sieve,
90 percent by weight passing U.S. No. 4 sieve and at least 60 percent by
weight passing U.S. No. 200 sieve. The maximum in-place dry clod size
shall be 1 inch.
2. Liquid Limit: 25 minimum to 60 maximum.
3. Plasticity Index: 10 to 40.
4. Field Hydraulic Conductivity: Maximum hydraulic conductivity of 1 x 10-7
cm/sec measured using a sealed double ring infiltrometer (SDRI). An SDRI
for the clay liner material has been performed and the results may be
obtained from the OWNER.
5. Laboratory Hydraulic Conductivity: Maximum hydraulic conductivity of
3.1 x 10-8 cm/sec (based on correlation to maximum field hydraulic
conductivity; see existing SDRI test results) when compacted to a relative
compaction of 90 percent at a water content of 3 to 8 percent greater than
the optimum water content per ASTM D1557, and permeated with water, as
measured using a standard triaxial permeability test method ASTM D5084-
90.
