<br /> <br /> Forward Landfill WMU FU-23 02300 13 EARTHWORK <br />specified in Section 01410, SURVEYS. <br /> 2. The prepared subgrade surface shall be smooth and free of major <br />irregularities. The subgrade should contain no exposed particles larger than <br />3 inches or other surface irregularities which, in the opinion of the QA/QC <br />CONSULTANT, will damage the overlying GCL, or 60-mil HDPE <br />geomembrane. <br /> 3. Over-excavation below the established lining subgrade by the EARTHWORK <br />CONTRACTOR shall, at his expense, be backfilled with Clay Liner Material <br />or General Earthfill Material as directed by the QA/QC CONSULTANT. <br /> 4. Once completed, all traffic shall be kept off the lining subgrade. <br /> 5. The lining subgrade shall be maintained in the finished condition until the first <br />succeeding course is placed. Any damage to the prepared lining subgrade by <br />the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall be repaired, at the EARTHWORK <br />CONTRACTOR's expense. Any damage to the prepared lining subgrade by <br />the GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR, including those caused by a delay <br />of the GEOSYNHETICS CONTRACTOR, shall be at the <br />GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR’s expense. <br /> 6. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall notify the OWNER at least 3 <br />working days in advance of when the subgrade is completed and ready for as- <br />built surveys. The OWNER will survey the top of the base and slope <br />subgrade in accordance with Section 01410, SURVEYS. The survey shall <br />provide coordinates and elevations of the subgrade surface at a minimum of <br />75-foot centers and delineating prominent features. The results of the survey <br />will be provided to the QA/QC CONSULTANT within 2 days of the survey <br />for approval prior to placing overlying materials. The QA/QC <br />CONSULTANT shall have 2 working days to review survey results and may <br />independently verify survey results. The time taken by the QA/QC <br />CONSULTANT in checking and verifying the survey results will be <br />considered included in the total calendar days allotted the EARTHWORK <br />CONTRACTOR before liquidated damages are assessed. <br /> <br /> B. After completion of clay liner, proof-roll the surface of the entire lined area with a <br />loaded dump truck or similar heavy-wheeled equipment to detect soft or loose <br />zones. Notify the QA/QC CONSULTANT prior to commencement of <br />proof-rolling. If soft or loose zones are found, excavate the soft or loose material <br />to a depth accepted by the QA/QC CONSULTANT, then fill with Clay Liner or <br />General Earthfill, as appropriate. The Clay Liner or General Earthfill shall be <br />compacted as specified for such fill. <br /> <br /> <br />3.8 CONSTRUCTION OF CLAY LINER <br /> <br /> A. General: <br /> <br /> 1. Clay Liner Material shall be processed to meet the requirements of Article <br />2.3 of this Specification.
