Forward Landfill WMU FU-23 <br />02771 6 GEOTEXTILES <br />D. Cut geotextile using approved cutter only. Take care to protect other in-place geosynthetic materials when cutting geotextile. E. Do not trap excessive dust, stones, or moisture in geotextile that could damage or clog drains or filters, or hamper subsequent seaming. F. Examine geotextile over entire completed surface to ensure that no potentially harmful foreign objects, such as needles, are present. Remove any foreign objects. 3.4 SEAMS AND OVERLAPS A. Seams for the filter geotextile shall be overlapped a minimum 2-feet. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR can reduce overlap distance if seams are sewn, with approval of the QA/QC CONSULTANT. B. Seams for the cushion geotextile shall be overlapped a minimum of 3-inches and sewn. All sewn seams shall be “single prayer” or “single J” seam using a 401 two-thread chain stitch, or equivalent. A polymeric thread having chemical resistance and strength properties equal to or exceeding those of the geotextile shall be used. C. Ensure that no soil materials are inadvertently inserted beneath the seams or overlaps of the geotextiles. 3.5 REPAIRS A. Repair holes or tears in geotextiles with a patch from the same geotextile material with a minimum seam overlap of 2-ft in all directions. If tear exceeds 50 percent of the roll width, remove and replace the roll. No patches will be allowed within 1 inch of a panel edge. B. Remove any soil or other material that may have penetrated the torn geotextile. C. Notify QA/QC CONSULTANT of all repairs. 3.6 FIELD QUALITY ASSURANCE A. The QA/QC CONSULTANT shall enforce all requirements associated with the nonwoven geotextile and comply with the Construction Quality Assurance Manual. B. The QA/QC CONSULTANT will observe all repair operations. 3.7 ACCEPTANCE A. The CONTRACTOR retains all responsibility for geotextile installation until acceptance by OWNER. B. OWNER accepts geotextiles when all the following have been completed: 1. The installation is complete. 2. Tests, if required, verify product requirements.
