Waste Component Breakdown
The actual breakdown of waste components as currently measured is shown below in Table 1.
Table 1- North County Total Received Tons 2020-2022
(Less Nov&Dec 1011)
Direct Haul 363,441
LL Transfers 70,254
Recycling Center 127,113
Salvaged Materials-1% 5,182
Compostable Materials-5% 25,783
Inerts-2% 91195
Total Received 560,807
In terms of the total tonnage received,the three components that are measured and reused or
repurposed to avoid landfilling,constitute only 8%of the total received waste. However this fails
to account for the substantial portion of the waste stream that is diverted prior to arrival at the
landfill. The City of Lodi,which is the primary source for the landfill operates a three cart system
that diverts the bulk of green waste and recyclable materials. Hence those quantities are not
accounted for in this table.
Estimated breakdown of components pre and post implementation of SB1383 are shown below.
Because there has never been a waste characterization done for the landfill the basis for these
estimates is the 2018 state wide Waste Characterization.
Table 2- Estimated Waste Composition
North County Estimates
Type Cal Avg Pre 1383 Post 1383
2018 % Divert Landfilled Landfilled
HHW 0.2 0.2 0 0
Elect 0.6 0.5 0.1 0.1
Glass 1.7 1.5 0.2 0.2
Metal 4.6 2 2.6 2.6
Special 6.7 6 0.7 0.7
Misc 9.8 0.1 9.7 9.7
Plastic 11.5 1.5 10 10
Inerts+ 14.1 10 4.1 4.1
Paper 16.6 10 6.6 6
Organic 34.1 16.5 17.3 14.6
99.9 48.3 51.3 48
Special=Tires, Bulky items, Mattresses etc
Misc=Clothing, Diapers,mixed residue
4
