All non -contact water in the southwest pond is sampled and analyzed in accordance with Forward
Landfill's Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan and Storm Water Monitoring Plan. If the pond
is at capacity and the stormwater samples comply with the discharge requirements, non -contact
water may be discharged to the South Fork of the South Branch of Little Johns Creek. A log is
kept on site recording the volume of non -contact water discharged to the creek from the
sedimentation pond. During the recent past, this location has had more than sufficient capacity to
retain all stormwater throughout the season, and no water has been discharged to the creek.
The northwest pond includes a spill way that allows non -contact water to flow directly into the
North Fork of the South Branch of Little Johns Creek. However, the non -contact water is
sampled and analyzed in accordance with Forward Landfill Storm Water Monitoring Plan before
the elevation of non -contact water in the pond is at the spillway elevation. If the non -contact
water is unacceptable for release, the liquid will be transferred to the double lined leachate
evaporation ponds. During the recent past, this location has had more than sufficient capacity to
retain all stormwater throughout the season, and no non -contact water has been discharged to the
creek or relocated to the double -lined leachate ponds.
During the 2018-2019 wet season, the top deck of the Austin Road Unit of the Forward Landfill
will slope primarily to the south and has been graded to drain to a series of culverts and five (5)
downdrains. The non -contact water is then directed to the sedimentation ponds via a system of
V -ditches. Downdrains were constructed during the 2012-2013 winter season to prevent erosion.
V -ditches along the north and west of Austin Road Unit were improved and graded to direct non -
contact water to the existing sedimentation pond or the lift station on the northwest corner of
WMU FU -03.
Stormwater that drains along the vegetated northern slope of the Austin Road Unit is collected in
a ditch that borders the perimeter road. Historically, stormwater that has accumulated in this
ditch has been manually pumped to the stormwater retention ponds, and this process will continue
as necessary. During the 2012-2013 winter season, Forward Landfill added a lift station at the
eastern end of the ditch so that accumulated stormwater is automatically pumped to the
stormwater pond when necessary.
