LL Hazardous Waste Ex Program
February 2020 8 San Joaquin County
PWD-Solid Waste
Exhibit 6
Sample Notice to Customers

NOTICE OF CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY
FOR PROHIBITED MATERIALS
LOVELACE TRANSFER STATION

Requirements of State Laws prohibit the disposal of hazardous wastes, and liquids, and other
prohibited materials at the Lovelace Transfer Station. To monitor compliance with these
requirements, a Load Checking Program has been implemented to prevent depositing such
materials at the Lovelace facility. :

Prohibited materials include:

Chemicals or chemical sludge which is toxic, corrosive, an irritant, or a strong
sensitizer
Drugs
Infectious wastes
Radioactive wastes
Flammables or explosives
Free liquids, including liquid residues in containers or cans which are greater than
one gallon in volume
Contaminated oil or fuel wastes
Pesticides or insecticides (properly neutralized and rinsed containers are allowed)
Bag house or air scrubber wastes
Asbestos wastes
Tank cleaning sludge or sediments
Contaminated soil or sand

Customers delivering prohibited materials to the Lovelace Transfer Station are responsible for
the handling and disposal of those materials.

If prohibited materials are delivered to the Lovelace Transfer Station and detected under
the Load Checking Program, the responsible customer will be requested to remove such
materials from the site for disposal at a properly designated disposal site. If the
prohibited material can be accepted at another County facility such as the North County
Recycling Center or the Household Hazardous Waste Consolidation Facility, the
customer will be informed of these options. Otherwise the customer will be directed to
contact the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department by calling (209) 468-
3420 regarding proper disposal of the prohibited materials.

If prohibited materials are discovered at the site but the responsible delivering party does
not safely remove the materials for disposal, the County will contract with a hazardous
waste hauler to remove the materials from the Lovelace Transfer Station for legal
disposal. The responsible party will be billed for associated costs.

Your cooperation with this Hazardous Waste Exclusion Program is appreciated. Help us protect
the environment and provide safe disposal of your non-hazardous waste.
