Site Health and Safety Plan Page 27
6.5 Hearing Conservation
Site workers shall use hearing protection to protect against noise exposures equal to or
exceeding an 8-hour time weighted average (TWA) of 85 dBA. In areas where noise exposure
meets or exceeds this level, noise will be listed as a physical hazard in the Job Hazard
Analysis Worksheet and hearing protection PPE for the tasks or operations in these areas
shall be included as one of the control measures.
6.6 PPE Maintenance and Storage
PPE shall be maintained and stored in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
PPE maintenance and storage programs are intended to ensure that PPE continues to
provide the anticipated at expected level of protection.
6.7 Use of PPE at the Site
Site workers using PPE shall receive the proper training and fit testing, as applicable. PPE
shall be inspected prior to, during use (as needed), and after each use. Site workers are
expected to comply with PPE usage, maintenance, and storage procedures. Moreover, site
workers must communicate to the SSHO whenever PPE is observed to be ineffective, or
exhibiting signs of excess wear, or nearing the end of its service life. Such PPE shall be
replaced immediately.
6.8 Respiratory Protection
The type of respiratory protection used on any particular site is dependent upon the level of
protection required, the type and concentration of contaminants, the duration of the work
task(s), and the individual site worker.
