Water Quality Measurements Field Standard Operating Procedure <br /> SWE-FSOP-101;Revision 1 Ahtna Southwest Environmental Operations <br /> 1.0 Introduction <br /> 1.1 Purpose <br /> This standard operating procedure (SOP) is to direct field staff in the proper techniques and <br /> documentation for calibrating, maintaining, and operating water quality meters and probes used for <br /> water quality measurements. <br /> 1.2 Scope <br /> The scope of this SOP applies to field staff conducting water quality measurements during well <br /> development, groundwater sampling, or other purposes.The SOP includes guidance for activities related <br /> to the performance, management, and completion of water quality measurements, including a <br /> description of staff responsibilities, relevant documentation, equipment, procedures,and quality control. <br /> Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) friendly procedures are also provided in this SOP. When <br /> required by the project, use the PFAS-free equipment, materials, and procedures recommended in this <br /> SOP which are indicated by [PFAS Projects]. <br /> 1.3 Responsibilities <br /> Field Team Lead (FTL). The FTL is responsible for reviewing project work plans to understand the health <br /> and safety needs, procedural specifications,and field documentation requirements.The FTL is responsible <br /> for reviewing and confirming the adequacy of the fieldwork documentation. <br /> Project Lead (PL). The PL is responsible for providing adequate resources to the field staff and ensuring <br /> the Field Team has adequate experience and training to comply with the SOP successfully. The PL is <br /> responsible for approving and documenting techniques not described in this SOP but are considered the <br /> best methods for the current project. <br /> Safety Representative.The Safety Representative meets the experience and training requirements of the <br /> current version of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers EM-385-1-1 Safety and Health Requirements.The Safety <br /> Representative oversees site-specific health and safety activities and ensures compliance with the project <br /> requirements. The Safety Representative notifies the FTL of safety deficiencies, incidents, and actions to <br /> correct those. If the circumstance warrants, the FTL approves those actions and notifies the PL and Site <br /> Safety and Health Officer for their approval. <br /> Quality Control Lead (QC Lead).The QC Lead ensures work inspections are performed using the 3-Phases <br /> of the Quality Control method described in the project work plans.The QC Lead notifies the PL of quality <br /> deficiencies and actions to correct those. The PL approves those actions or notifies the SWE Field QC <br /> Manager for their approval if the circumstance warrants involvement. <br /> 1.4 Definitions <br /> Field Documentation—The combination of field logbooks/notepads,field forms,digital/electronic forms, <br /> and other documentation in the project file. <br /> Page 4 of 8 <br />
