Groundwater Well Development Field Standard Operating Procedure <br /> SWE-FSOP-602;Revision 1 Ahtna Southwest Environmental Operations <br /> Introduction <br /> 1.1 Purpose <br /> The purpose of this standard operating procedure (SOP) is to direct field staff in the proper techniques <br /> and documentation of for developing temporary and permanent groundwater monitoring and extraction <br /> wells (hereafter referred to as "groundwater wells") after their installation and before their designated <br /> use.This method may also be used as part of rehabilitation or re-development of a well during its lifecycle. <br /> The details within this SOP should be used in conjunction with project-specific work plans, Accident <br /> Prevention Plans (APP) and Site Safety and Health Plans. <br /> 1.2 Scope <br /> The scope of this SOP applies to field staff performing or conducting oversight of groundwater well <br /> development. The SOP includes guidance for the performance, management, and completion of <br /> development activities, including a description of staff responsibilities, relevant documentation, <br /> equipment, procedures, and quality control. Project-specific APP and Site Safety and Health Plans address <br /> potential hazards related to well development. <br /> Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) friendly procedures are also provided in this SOP. When <br /> required by the project, use the PFAS-free equipment, materials, and procedures recommended in this <br /> SOP which are indicated by [PFAS Projects]. <br /> 1.2.1 Resources and Requirements <br /> In addition to project-specific procedures and requirements, it is essential to be thoroughly familiar and <br /> compliant with state, county, or local well installation (and development) standards, codes, etc. as they <br /> may contain requirements that must be used in conjunction with, or instead of procedures presented in <br /> this FSOP. <br /> 1.3 Responsibilities <br /> Field Team Lead (FTL). The FTL is responsible for reviewing project work plans to understand the health <br /> and safety needs, procedural specifications,and field documentation requirements.The FTL is responsible <br /> for reviewing and confirming the adequacy of the fieldwork documentation. <br /> Field Geologist.A Field Geologist is responsible for overseeing development activities according to project <br /> specifications. The Field Geologist is a registered geologist or a person performing work under the <br /> supervision of a registered geologist. <br /> Project Geologist. The registered Project Geologist is responsible for oversight of the well development <br /> subcontractor and field documentation. When a Field Geologist performs the oversight, the Project <br /> Geologist is responsible for fieldwork variances/deficiencies, completeness and accuracy of field <br /> documentation, and approval of the well development completion. <br /> Project Lead (PL). The PL is responsible for providing adequate resources to the field staff and ensuring <br /> the Field Team has adequate experience and training to comply with the SOP successfully.
