Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan The Home Depot Store #5857 9 Emergency Procedures The Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan will be implemented under the following conditions: • Afire involving hazardous waste • An explosion involving hazardous waste • A release or spill involving a reportable quantity (RQ) of hazardous waste Upon discovery, spills or releases that do not exceed an RQ will be cleaned up and properly managed, but will not require implementation of the hazardous waste Contingency Plan. The RQs for the potential hazardous wastes are identified in 40 CFR Part 302, Table 302.4. The Emergency Coordinator will have the discretion to implement the Plan based on the conditions of an emergency situation. The provisions of the Plan must be carried out immediately whenever there is a fire, explosion, or release of hazardous waste or hazardous waste constituents that could threaten human health or the environment. A spill of hazardous waste less than the RQ could potentially trigger either of these conditions. 9.1 Discovery Upon discovery of a fire, explosion, or release of hazardous waste, Site associates will first activate the fire alarm aIt the nearest pull box (if not already activated) and notify the Emergency Coordinator via cell phone at the number found on Table 3-1. Table 3-2 provides additional emergency notification numbers and information. The Emergency Coordinator or designee will then assess the situation and follow the Hazardous Waste Emergency Response Procedures provided in Appendix E. The Emergency Coordinator, or designee is responsible for informing 3E of the spill, if necessary. 9.2 Summary of Hazardous Waste Incident Response Steps In case of a hazardous waste fire, explosion or release, trained associates will follow detailed response steps provided in The Home Depot's HHM Standard Operating Procedure. A summary of hazardous waste emergency procedures and response steps are provided in Appendix E. A discharge notification form is filled out for arelease/fire incident involving hazardous waste on the property. This form is provided in Appendix F. This discharge notification form or a similar form can be used. 9.3 Notification There are some levels of report ing requirements triggered by a hazardous waste incident. These reporting requirements involve both internal and external notification. Tables 3-1 and 3-2 provide a list of internal and external notification numbers, respectively. 15
