Appendix E <br />Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan <br />Hazardous Waste Emergency Procedures <br />1. Waste Descron: Flammable liquids/solids, toxic liquids/solids, acids, <br />corrosives. <br />2. Chemical Hazards: Include but are not limited to irritant, corrosive, toxic, <br />and flammable. <br />3. Chemicals that may <br />be present: Include but are not limited to solvents, cleaners, and <br />petroleum-based products. <br />4. Safety: If these emergency procedures cannot be <br />performed safely, do not attempt. Contact a trained <br />emergency response person. <br />REMEMBER: IF IT CAN'T BE DONE SAFELY, DON'T DO IT' <br />PERSONAL PROTECTION: <br />• Wear appropriate chemical -protective gloves, boots, glasses/goggles, and/or <br />respirator (Note: employees must be trained, and fit tested to wear half -face <br />or full -face respirators) <br />• Avoid breathing particulates <br />• Avoid bodily contact with the material <br />• Wash away any material that may have contacted the body with copious <br />amounts of water or soap and water <br />HAZARDOUS WASTE INCIDENT RESPONSE STEPS <br />DESCRIPTION (ACTIONS MAY NOT BE <br />ACTION <br />LIMITED TO THESE STEPS) <br />1) <br />Isolate spill from customers and other <br />Isolate spill using a barricade gate or other <br />associates <br />barrier device <br />• Keep material out of water sources or sewers <br />2) <br />Notify Emergency Coordinators <br />Notify the Designated HHM Associate and <br />Emergency Coordinator <br />3) <br />Identify spill using HHM system <br />If the label is not legible, obtain the information <br />on the label of the same product that was spilled <br />• If the product cannot be identified in this way <br />contact 3E for further instructions <br />4) <br />If spill resulted in a fire, initiate fire <br />Emergency Coordinator can attempt to <br />containment <br />extinguish fire, if safe to do so <br />• Call 911 if fire cannot be extinguished safely <br />and evacuate the building <br />
