Appendix E <br />Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan <br />Hazardous Waste Emergency Procedures <br />DESCRIPTION (ACTIONS MAY NOT BE <br />ACTION <br />LIMITED TO THESE STEPS) <br />5) If spill did not result in a fire, initiate <br />0 <br />Emergency Coordinator will stop the source of <br />spill containment and disposal of spill <br />the spill and shut off ignition sources, if safe to <br />do so <br />• <br />Review and follow the HHM instructions on how <br />to clean up and dispose of the spill <br />• <br />Contain spill with absorbent materials <br />• <br />Place absorbent and spilled material in bag liner <br />and dispose in proper contained located in HHM <br />CSA <br />6) Assess the characteristics of the <br />0 <br />Volume of discharge <br />release: <br />0 <br />If the spill has entered a waterway <br />• <br />If spill can be contained <br />7) If a threat is present, initiate <br />0 <br />Announce a possible shut down or evacuation <br />appropriate actions <br />0 <br />Evacuate associates not involved with mitigation <br />and danger abatement <br />• <br />Emergency Coordinator will notify to secure the <br />area, reroute traffic, and evacuate surrounding <br />facilities or residences, if necessary <br />8) Determine if evacuation is necessary <br />The following types of incidents could require <br />evacuation: <br />o Uncontrolled fire or explosions; <br />o A spill of highly evaporative materials; <br />o A spill of a highly flammable substance or <br />a hazard due to other substances in the <br />immediate area; or large spills that cannot <br />be immediately contained <br />9) Direct the response <br />Store Associates <br />• <br />Fire department <br />• <br />Agencies <br />10) Record spill <br />Ensure container is in proper lane of CSA and is <br />logged into the Hazardous Waste Inventory <br />11) Restock Spill Kit <br />Restock Spill Kit before facility reopens <br />
