Facility
Ripon, California
Dear Ms. Ginorio:
On behalf of Nestle USA, Inc. (Nestle), Haley&Aldrich, Inc. (Haley&Aldrich) prepared this Piezometer
and Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan (Work Plan) describing the proposed installation of two
piezometers and one monitoring well to support remedial actions and groundwater monitoring efforts
associated with the former Nestle facility located at 230 Industrial Avenue in Ripon, California (Site;
Figure 1).
Background
Pursuant to the Cleanup and Abatement Order No. R5-2006-0720 (CAO), Nestle prepared and submitted
a Final Remedial Action Plan (RAP)to the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (Water
Board)to document the current remedial actions completed and ongoing and to develop, evaluate, and
recommend remedial actions to address areas of the Site that warrant remediation (Haley&Aldrich,
2025b). One of the key components of the RAP is the continued operations, maintenance, and
optimization of the two groundwater extraction, treatment, and reinjection systems for the Site,
including the Walnut Avenue System and the North Area Treatment System (NATS).To support
monitoring and optimization of the treatment systems, the RAP proposes the installation of two
piezometers for the NATS and one downgradient monitoring well for the Walnut Avenue System. These
installations are further summarized in the following sections.
NORTH AREA TREATMENT SYSTEM PIEZOMETERS
The NATS is a groundwater extraction and treatment system that targets COCs in Intermediate Aquifer
groundwater. Nestle constructed the NATS in 2022 and 2023 at the Ripon Public Schools property to
capture COCs in the Intermediate Aquifer and expedite groundwater cleanup. The NATS extracts
groundwater from two extraction wells, RPS-1 and RPS-3 (screened in the C1 and C2 Zones,
respectively). Extracted groundwater is conveyed to the treatment system located at the northern end
of the Ripon Public Schools property and treated by adsorption in two 10,000-pound granular activated
www.haleyaldrich.com
